10 tips to ace your next interview

  • Perception: Never consider going for an interview only for experience-always prepare with the mindset to go for the distance.
  • Preparation: Study the job description and requirement list and jot down your strengths against each point.
  • Panel: Find out who is on the interview panel and what their roles and backgrounds are. Go in with the confidence of knowing who is interviewing you without being overwhelmed.
  • Prediction: Predict the type of questions that may be asked by reviewing the JD and speaking to colleagues. Use the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
  • Professional: Look professional in your dressing and grooming.
  • Performance: Rehearse the common statements that may be asked beforehand to ensure spontaneity especially if English is not the first language.
  • Posture: Never sit slumped back in the chair or at the edge of the chair. Enter with a greeting and sit when offered to sit comfortably but alertly.
  • Presentation: This includes the way you will carry yourself during the interview. It needs to be courteous, intelligent yet non-arrogant.
  • Post interview feedback: Always request for feedback on each domain of your performance (Communication, Knowledge, Skill, and attitude)
  • Positive approach: Even if you are unsuccessful on this occasion you have won a valuable experience which puts you one step closer to your goal.
